How Connecticut sets it Connecticut speeding is charged under different statutes depending on speed and road type, but the dollar amounts all come from one place: the fine schedule established under C.G.S. §51-164m and published by the Judicial Branch, whose 'Total Amount Due' column already folds in every statutory fee and surcharge. For the standard speeding infraction (§14-219(b)) the all-in total runs from $162 at 1–9 mph over to $226 at 22+ over; lower-speed tickets are charged as 'traveling unreasonably fast' (§14-218a) at slightly lower totals, and speeds over 70 mph on limited-access highways become mail-in violations with higher totals.

The $68 'fine' becomes $191 owed: the Judicial Branch schedule stacks the $1-per-$8 fee, the $15 speeding cost, the $35 infraction surcharge, a 50% Special Transportation Fund surcharge, the $5 brain-injury assessment, and the $25 listed-violation fee, and prints $191 as the Total Amount Due for 15 mph over. This is the schedule's own arithmetic — the same statewide.

A conviction that pushes the point total above 10 points within 24 months brings a 30-day suspension; going above 10 again within 5 years of that suspension keeps the license suspended until the total falls to 10 or below. Separately, the DMV orders an operator-retraining course after 2 moving violations (drivers 24 or younger) or 3 moving violations (drivers 25 and older). (Regs. Conn. When a court appearance is required
Infractions and the listed mail-in violations are payable by mail or online to the Centralized Infractions Bureau with no appearance — payment is entered as a nolo contendere plea. A Misdemeanor/M.V. Summons (court ticket) is required instead for: trucks at more than 55 up to 60 mph on non-limited-access highways (§14-219(b)(3)); any vehicle at more than 60 up to 85 mph on non-limited-access highways (§14-219(c)(2)); and any vehicle over 85 mph or driven recklessly, charged under §14-222. Local variation — the honest caveat
The schedule is statewide — no town-by-town variance in the amounts for state speeding charges. What varies is which statute applies: road type and absolute speed decide between §14-218a (under 56 mph), the §14-219(b) infraction band, the §14-219(c) violations, and §14-222 — and trucks and motor carriers have their own, higher tables. - Amounts are from the schedule edition effective October 1, 2024; the judges of the Superior Court revise the schedule periodically.
- Trucks (as defined in §14-260n) and motor carriers are fined under separate, higher tables (schedule Appendix D) not reproduced here.
